Installation advice:

Our manuals are installations ideas! Our ambient lights are made for a 12V installation at the car battery or the cigarette lighter plug. If you wire our products at your vehicle's electrical systems, you do this on your own risk! Using the board lighting for power for our RGB modules will NOT work and damage these, because of the PWM signal, which is used by your car to dim the lights in the car.
Low temperatures will make it difficult to apply (install/stick) ambitrim®, we advise you to slightly warm up the optic fiber before use.
You will get the best results for ambitrim®, if you install it straight. If you install it in curves, the light intensity will change.
We reccommend to use a second light source at the end of the optic fiber, if the optic fiber is longer than 1,2m. This will make the light appear more homogeneous. We automatically deliver 2x light sources when choosing "dashboard 2m".
If you like to drill holes into your door panels, do it in an angle, so our ambitrim® will not be kinked.
Electrical work must be carried out by a qualified personnel/garage.
If you like to stick ambitrim®, you can use pvc glue.
If you want to install several RGB central units in your car, you can control these central units via app individually.
the length of the wires of the RGB BT+RF central unit to the single light sources is ca. 40cm. You will need extension wires, which you can order here: https://individualiseyourcar.com/en/ambitrim-led-ambientlight-ambience-light-strip-accesories.html

Legal notice:

This item is allowed for the car’s interior only. External use of the LEDs is prohibited according to the German traffic regulations (abbr. StVO, s.a. §22a StVZO).

FAQ

Here we list for you the most frequently asked questions about our ambitrim® LED RGB ambient lighting Get up there. If you still have questions after that, please do not hesitate to contact us:

1. How do I get the cables of the individual light sources to the control unit?
Each light source is connected to the control unit via a plug and cable. If you place the control unit e.g. near the fuse box at the front (common), you have to run a cable to the point of use. There are suitably long extension cables for this, which you simply plug in between. Unlike other systems, our cables are not simply fixed between light source and control unit but have a plug. The advantage is that you only have to pull a cable with a plug (approx. 6mm diameter) through e.g. the door connections, not the whole light source.

2. Can I shorten the light strip?
Yes, that's no problem. You don't even have to pay attention to where you cut.

3. What kind of light guide is it?
Basically there are 3 types of light guide:
1. a light guide made of PMMA. Unfortunately it cannot be glued and in our opinion is not practical, especially when installed as ambient lighting on the dashboard.

2. a light guide with a loose PMMA core and a PVC sleeve. Popular with some competitors.
Advantage: cheap to produce. Can be glued.
Disadvantage: you have to push the light guide into the sleeve by hand. If it kinks briefly, the material is compressed at that point and the core will always shine more brightly there.
In addition, to make pushing it in as easy as possible, the difference in diameter between core and sleeve has to be as large as possible. You can probably imagine it: a large core and an almost equally large sleeve would make it impossible to push the light guide in. As a result, the core diameter ultimately has to be smaller. That in turn leads to poorer light output

3. a light guide with a PMMA core and a PVC sleeve that are firmly bonded together. Our choice!
Advantage: no error-prone manual insertion of the light guide needed. Higher light output, because the core diameter can be larger than with 2., since you don't have to insert it by hand.
Disadvantage: more expensive to produce. Complex pressing process to bond light guide and sleeve.
Please don't believe fairy tales that the light guide and core are glued together. That's what suppliers like to say who would rather sell the cheaper light guides to keep their margins as high as possible.

Tip: it's best to test light guides from different suppliers. A professional company that tells the truth will gladly send you a small sample ;)

4. How does the control unit get power?
That's easy. You use our included fuse adapter and, for example, the recommended cigarette lighter fuse. Take it out, plug in our adapter and put the old fuse into the adapter. This creates two separate, fused circuits that are guaranteed not to cause any error messages and don't interfere with the CAN bus system.

5. Can I also set the light strips to a single colour, without changing?
Yes, these are called static colours and you can select them e.g. simply via a colour wheel in the app.

6. Can I expand the system with several control units?
Yes, that's no problem. In the app you can then either control all control units together or select and control them individually. This lets you set up zone control, for example, with different colours.

7. Can I bend the light guides?
Yes, that's possible. But please keep in mind: the stronger the bend and the shorter the section you bend, the more you compress the material there. Compressed material shines more brightly.

8. Can I dim the brightness?
Yes, that works via the app.

9. Where can I find the control app for Android or Apple?
You can find the links to the apps here.

10. Is the white a true white or, as so often, bluish?
Using the colour wheel you can set either a warm or a cool white.

11. Is the ambitrim® RGB LED ambient lighting bright enough to be seen during the day?
Yes and no! The ambient lighting is designed for use in the dark. During the day the effect is not strong.

12. Does the system save the last setting when I switch off the car/power?
Yes, the system restarts in the mode you last set.

Installation idea

This installation idea is meant as a guide and may be used at your own risk:

This applies to the RGB version only:
0. Take power directly from the fuse box using the included fuse adapter, e.g. the fuse for the cigarette lighter. It will then only switch on when you turn on the ignition. Test this first. If everything works, carry on. Even though it's written in countless places: never connect the RGB version of the ambitrim LED ambient lighting to the existing interior lighting. It will not work and will very likely destroy the RGB control unit very quickly, because these lines carry a PWM signal.
1. Place the control unit in the fuse box.
2. From the control unit, cables have to be run to each location where the light guides and light sources will be placed. Either use our extensions, which you can find in the ambitrim accessories product, or extend the 4-wire cables yourself. Please measure the required length with a tape measure or folding rule.
3. In the doors, run the cables through the existing rubber cable grommets. If you already have fixed connectors installed, you can either try to get past the connector, e.g. by drilling a small hole, or use the corresponding pins from the vehicle manufacturer.
4. As one of the few suppliers, we use special light guides that you can fix with plastic adhesive. This is often necessary on dashboards in particular. In the doors, a few fixed points often provide extra hold in case you carry passengers who aren't so gentle with your baby.
5. All clear so far? If not, feel free to ask us.
