FAQ
Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about our products:
EL ambient lighting
I have installed the EL ambient lighting on my vehicle electrics at my own risk (to the lighting of the electric window switch, hazard warning light switch etc.) and the light bar:
- Flickers
- The voltage that the ambient lighting receives is too low. That damages the inverter of the product
- SOLUTION: Use a suitable power source with 12V!
- The voltage that the ambient lighting receives is too low. That damages the inverter of the product
- Does not light
- The applied voltage may be too low or a control device spots the additional consumer and blocks the channel (sometimes the buttons on the electric windows, the hazard warning light switch etc. suddenly stop lightning).
- SOLUTION: Use a suitable power source with 12V! If the control unit is the problem, you can try to trick it with our generation 1 or generation 2 inverters, because they use less power than our generation 3 inverters.
- The applied voltage may be too low or a control device spots the additional consumer and blocks the channel (sometimes the buttons on the electric windows, the hazard warning light switch etc. suddenly stop lightning).
- Buzz
- Buzzing is normal with the Inverter Generation 1. With all other inverter generations this is NOT normal and there is a problem with the voltage!
- SOLUTION: Use a suitable power source with 12V!

ambitrim® Ambient Lighting
I have installed the ambitrim ambient lighting on my vehicle electrics at my own risk (to the lighting of the electric window switch, hazard warning light switch, etc.) and the light bar:
- Does not light
- The applied voltage may be too low or a control device spots the additional consumer and blocks the channel (sometimes the buttons on the electric windows, the hazard warning light switch etc. suddenly stop lightning).
- It happens most frequently with the RGB RF control, because this variant has the highest power consumption.
- SOLUTION: Use a suitable power source with 12V that is not monitored or try our single color modules, because they have a lower power consumption.
- Usually this does not happen with the single color modules.
- The RGB module flashes regularly
- This is because you have connected the lighting to the on-board electrical system (to the lighting of the window switch, hazard warning light switch etc.). This is dimmed with a PWM signal and that is not compatible with the RGB color change module.
- SOLUTION: Use a suitable power source with 12V that is not monitored or install a capacitor that suppresses the signal. It is ESSENTIAL to get the advice of an expert.
- This is because you have connected the lighting to the on-board electrical system (to the lighting of the window switch, hazard warning light switch etc.). This is dimmed with a PWM signal and that is not compatible with the RGB color change module.
What are the differences between the EL Ambient Lighting and the ambitrim® Ambient Lighting?
Feature | EL Ambient Lighting | ambitrim® Ambient Lighting? |
Voltage | 12V DC | Single-colored: 6-14V DC RGB (multi-colored): 10-14V DC |
Dimmable | No | You can dim the single-colored variant with the voltage, the RGB (multi-colored) variant is dimmable with the App or the radio-remote |
Color when switched off | Colored (depends on the light colour) | Transparent |
Homogeneity of the light | 100% | The light intensity decreases with the distance to the light source |
Technology | EL – entire light bar is a light source | LED + optical fiber |
LED interior lighting
One of the biggest fallacies circulating on the internet is the Kelvin number (K for short) in LEDs. The Kelvin number says nothing about the brightness.
Rather, it is used to show the color temperature. Here is a scale that will help you choose the LEDs you want:
